Ariana Grande’s album Sweetener is dropping in 2 days and we could not be more excited! It’s been a long two years of waiting for this album, after her last album Dangerous Woman was released in May, 2016. The release earned Grande 2 Grammy nominations and $71 million off the Dangerous Woman tour alone. This is going to be tough to top, but if we know Ariana Grande as well as we tell people we do, we’re sure this album is going to be a hit.
Here are just a few reasons to be excited for this next album release:
All those Messages of Female Empowerment:
Grande is a massive advocate for feminism and female empowerment – and rightly so! She has addressed all kinds of issues about feminism in Hollywood, and has even confronted interviewers for asking her questions about her love-life and relationships before her career (see some of her best interview moments here). And now, she has bought that all to life in her single God is a Woman. The song talks about all things girl power, and in the words of Grande’s fiancee Pete Davidson, the track “bangs”. We’ll take your word for it, Pete.
Our favourite lyrics from the whole song would have to be: “I can be all the things you tell me not to be/ When you try to come for me, I keep on flourishing”.
AS IF that’s not the most empowering thing you’ve heard all week. 10/10 would recommend downloading this song ASAP and basking in all the empowerment while you’re listening.
The Relationship Goals:
We’d be lying if we said we weren’t intrigued by the 14th track on the album, simply entitled Pete Davidson. Davidson and Grande began dating this year, shortly after the singer’s relationship with Mac Miller ended. Reports of engagements and proposals have been floating around since – and unsurprisingly, she’s chosen to dedicate a song to the Saturday Night Live actor and comedian. Personally, we can’t wait! We love that she’s gone in a different direction to other pop stars when addressing her relationships through music. Instead of a scathing review of her relationship with her ex, she’s written a love song dedicated to her current love. If that ain’t relationship goals, we don’t know what is.
Epic Collaborations:
Grande is no stranger to some pretty epic song collaborations. She’s teamed up with the likes of The Weeknd, ex-boyfriend Mac Miller, Nicki Minaj, and Troye Sivan. Impossible to beat, right? Wrong! For her newest album, she has joined forces with Happy singer Pharrell for track number 2 on the album, Blazed. So long as there’s no mentions of any of Pharrell’s eccentric headwear choices, we’re sure this is going to be an absolute banger.
Grande has also teamed up with one of the greats of Hip Hop and R&B – Missy Elliott. The Work It singer features on the 11th track, called Borderline. The song is sure to be a mixture of Missy Elliott’s old-school R&B and Grande’s killer whistle tones. What have we done to deserve all this?
The album is available for purchase on August 19. Pre-order Sweetener by following the link here, and don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Instagram.
