The infamous Kanye Kissing Kanye mural done by Scott Marsh was unfortunately painted over after Kanye West’s management paid Marsh $100,000 to have it removed (onya, Marsh), but luckily has been replaced by another controversially infamous figure – our lovely NSW Premier Mike Baird.
Baird is depicted in this new mural with a glass of wine and a cigarette in one hand and a kebab in the other, two undeniable staples of Sydney nightlife which have ultimately been destroyed by the nanny state lockout laws which restrict the entry of clubs past 1:30 am (note that sneaky 1:31 time stamp). In front of him lies a pile of poker chips, inspired by his nickname #CasinoMike from the fact that the casinos are conveniently just outside the lockout areas.
We definitely salute Mr. Marsh’s courageous act of protesting the ridiculous Sydney lockout laws, don’t know if we’d have the guts to go as far as to paint such an unflattering (but realistic) depiction of our Premier. We’re not sure if the NSW is willing to fork out $100k like Kanye’s management, but we’re hoping Marsh gets a hell of a pay day for this iconic piece.
Head down to Chippen Lane in Chippendale to see the masterpiece for yourself, and post the obligatory pic to insta.
