The man behind Jennifer Lawrence’s nude photo leak is being sent to prison for 8 months. Prosecutors claimed that between April 2013 and October 2014, Garofano contacted the celebrities through a fake Apple security account and requested their usernames and passwords. He was able to hack into the accounts of the victims based on this information. Garofano released the private images, which included nude photos of Lawrence and Upton. He was arrested at the end of 2014.

Jennifer Lawrence spoke to Vanity Fair about the crisis in 2014, describing it as a “sex crime”.

“Just because I’m a public figure, just because I’m an actress, does not mean that I asked for this. It does not mean that it comes with the territory. It’s my body, and it should be my choice, and the fact that it is not my choice is absolutely disgusting.

Despite pleading guilty, Garofano asked the judge to be lenient with his sanctions, on the grounds that he was already losing his rights because of the photo leak. Garofano was one of four men who have all been imprisoned for the crime.

Garofano was also sentenced to 3 years supervision and 60 hours of community service.
