Sacha Baron Cohen’s Showtime series Who Is America? is a ratings success.
According to the cable network, 2.8 million people tuned in to watch the hit series opener across all platforms (on-air, on demand, DVR, and streaming) in the seven days since its premiere.
Ratings for the beloved entertainer’s latest show have soared with over 1 million viewers indulging in the hilariously crude comedy.
The first week’s viewership bumped from 327,000 for the live program, with four replays added 375,000 more viewers, and 301,000 streamed the episode that day bringing one million viewers.
Showtime also said Who Is America? drove the most sign-ups for its streaming service of any day in 2018. The following day, sign-ups more than tripled.
The political satire mockumentary follows Cohen as he dresses in many disguises on his mission to take on America’s patriotism.
While in incognito, the ‘Borat’ star manages to talk guests like Sarah Palin, Dick Cheney and others into doing and saying outlandish things.
Palin’s deception was controversial, as the comedian posed a disabled US veteran during their interview.
The former Governor of Alaska branded Cohen on Facebook as “evil, exploitive” and “sick” to get an interview for his series.
The funnyman responded to Republican politician’s post by releasing a statement under the character Billy Wayne Ruddick Jr, PhD, a right-wing journalist, branding her comments as “FAKE NEWS”.
The letter reads: “I did NOT say I was a War Vet. I was in the service – not military, but United Parcel and I only fought for my country once – when I shot a Mexican who came onto my property.”
