Another day, another celebrity photo hack. This time, however, the victim is striking back. Beauty and the Beast star Emma Watson is taking legal action after some of her private photos were hacked and leaked online.
According to her publicist, the photos were “from a clothes fitting Emma had with a stylist a couple of years ago”.
The photos had reportedly been shared around on the so called “deep web”, which has leaked stolen photos and videos before.
Fortunately, the leaked images were not nude photos so there will not be a repeat of the enormous 2014 celebrity hacking, where a number of celebrities including Jennifer Laurence had private photos leaked online.
This leak comes only weeks after Watson’s controversial interview and photo shoot with Vanity Fair, where some accused her of betraying her feminist ideals.
Unfortunately, hackers seem to target celebrities because they know that demand is high for their photos. It’s good to see Emma using her influence to stand up for herself and for other victims of photo hacking. Hopefully she gets the outcome she wants.
