Ed Sheeran is going to appear in the newest season of Game of Thrones! That’s a sentence I never thought I’d write. The writers of the show wanted the prolific musician to appear on the show as a surprise for Maisie Williams, who plays plucky Ayra Stark in the hit HBO show.
Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss confirmed that Sheeran was appearing on the show in a panel discussion that also features Maisie Williams and Sophie Turner (AKA Sansa Stark).
Benioff yelled to the crowd “we finally did it”, after trying to get the singer for years. It’s been a huge surprise to Maisie Williams, who made no secret of the fact that she’s a huge fan of the singer.
“For years, we were trying to get Ed Sheeran on the show to surprise Maisie and this year we finally did it,” said Benioff.
Sheeran himself confirmed the news on his Twitter.

There’s unfortunately no word as of yet as to how the singer will be put into the show. Other bands have performed on Game of Thrones, such as Coldplay and Sigur Ros. However, the band members of American band Mastadon featured in the show as zombiefied Wildlings, which made them unidentifiable to fans.
Maisie Williams been very open about her love of Ed Sheeran, particularly on the red carpet in 2015. She was heard saying:
“I met him a year ago and I’m a mad supporter. So any way I can support him I will, but he’s a megastar now so he doesn’t need me. I love his music. He’s stayed true to himself and never tried to be anything he’s not. He’s very real and honest and a beautiful artist in that sense.”
Awww! We can’t wait to see these two on screen together.
