After so many rumours, supposed leaks and false alarms, HBO has finally revealed the air date for season 7 of Game of Thrones. However to the disappointment of many, it’s further away than any of us would like.

The air date of July 16 was revealed on a livestream on the Game of Thrones Facebook page, which was watched by millions (productivity be damned!). The stream had flamethrowers melting a block of ice that contained the date at its centre.

The stream was filled with problems though, with it taking over an hour for the ice to melt, along with the stream dying on a number of occasions, much like many of our favourite Game of Thrones characters.

Along with the release date there was a new poster promoting the new season and a teaser trailer, which shows the sigils of the major houses of Westeros crumbling to the ground.

Sadly, there will only be seven episodes in this season, with the writers of the show saying they only ever had 70-75 hours worth of show planned. This means there are only 15 or so episodes left for the final two seasons of the show.

These reveals will be the first of many before the July 16th season 7 premiere, and hopefully the reveals will only get better.
