They’re well known for providing some of the best elements of the ultimate 2000s soundtrack and are one of the few things people are probably glad doesn’t stay in Vegas – yep, the Killers are big news.
They’ve been on a hiatus/R&R vacation since 2012’s underrated Battle Born and, despite the widespread success of frontman Brandon Flowers’ solo album The Desired Effect (2015), people were just starting to pine for album number five.
Well, praise whatever you prize the most and don your best desert-wear in thanks, because the calls have been answered.
The darlings of Nevada have released their first single from their upcoming fifth studio album, which is going to be titled Wonderful Wonderful. It’s called ‘The Man’, and it’s a bit of a banger.
Flowers himself described it in a recent interview as a bit like “David Bowie walking down the Vegas strip at night”, and I can totally see where he’s coming from.
Give it a shot, and try not to lose your way.
If you like what you’re hearing (I’d be surprised if you didn’t, but then some people also claim to not like Nutella), the song is now available on all your usual downloading and streaming outlets, so it’s in your hands now. Go get it, boy.
The Killers, most guttingly, haven’t got plans to come for a proper Australian tour yet, even though we know they’ll be flying through for the AFL Grand Final later this year. But you’ve got to imagine a world tour follows a new album, so keep your eyes and ears peeled.
And while you’re waiting, just remind yourself of how much Brandon loved his eyeliner back in the day.
