WATCH: The Spice Girls bring back Girl Power for a cause

It’s 20 years on and the Spice Girls are still a major influence in our lives. This time, their hit song “Wannabe” is being used to promote gender equality around the world. The video was created and spread by The Global Goals, a movement that aims to draw attention to the unequal treatment of women around the world. They’ve borrowed the Spice Girls’ slogan “Girl Power” and used it to encourage people to think about gender inequality and act for change.

The music video features women from India, Nigeria, South Africa, the UK, USA and Canada singing and dancing their way through markets and streets. While they’re dancing, messages like “End Child Marriage” and “Quality Education for All Girls” flash up, indicating the #GlobalGoals of the new and improved Girl Power.

There’s nothing like the Spice Girls to bring together women around the world. Posh Spice (AKA Victoria Beckham AKA matriarch of the world’s hottest family) shared the video on her Facebook page and wrote a message of how proud she was that Girl Power is being used to empower a new generation. Hopefully their Girl Power will give Global Goals the support to meet the United Nations in a strong position.
