We’re all guilty of blasting Shout Out To My Ex by Little Mix through our car speakers and singing (or screaming) along to the oh so relatable lyrics. Unsurprisingly, the girls drew on their own experiences to write the song, particularly Perrie’s infamous split with ex-fiancé, Zayn Malik.
News AU revealed an earlier version of the song that has all fingers pointing to Zayn’s new lover, Gigi Hadid.
“Heard he been fucking some model chick, yeah that shit hurt I’ll admit, but fuck that boy I’m over it.”
Maybe it’s just a coincidence that Gigi is a model…but we don’t think so. Perrie said they didn’t choose to go with those lyrics because they needed to make it clean.
“We didn’t want to have the parental advisory sticker on our albums and singles. Even though our fans are our age, 20 or over 18, we still have a lot of young fans. But it does feel good to swear, doesn’t it?”
So basically Perrie’s main concern was the swearing rather than slamming Gigi. We all love Gigi, but as if anyone’s going to like their ex’s new girl, so we feel you Perrie!
Jesy added that this is the perfect breakup anthem because it makes you feel empowered.
“I wish this song had been around when I broke up with my ex. It doesn’t make you feel sad after a breakup, you feel good.”
