Last night’s episode of The Bachelor was a lot to unpack. A LOT. Hometown dates. Awkward family encounters. I love you’s. All ending in Australia’s sweetheart leaving in heartbreak.
Let’s break down the hometown dates first, which all follow the same pattern of “Hi, we are so happy to meet you, Nick, but wait, we actually hate you because why wouldn’t we? You are dating my daughter/sister whilst very publicly dating three other girls at the same time.”
Nick experiences this pattern first with Cass’s family and he learns very quickly that he should be careful because her sister is a professional crossfitter. Do not mess, Nick. Cass’s sister asks him if he has feelings for Cass and in his true-Nick way he avoids the question at all costs. A sudden feeling sinks in, and I prepare myself for the second-hand devastation tonight’s rose ceremony might bring.
Side note, I am pretty sure Cass’s mum loves Nick more than Cass. If that is even possible.
On hometown number two, Brooke decides to “teach” Nick some ‘ball’ skills with an AFL footy, as he has obviously never seen AFL or a footy ball because he lives under a rock with 7 other siblings. Back in Perth, Brooke’s best mate, Tess, is not picking up anything Nick is putting down. Honestly, this look just sums up how the night went for him:
Brooke leaves Nick by telling him how she is falling in love with him and this is a prime example of a time I wish we lived without social media because I genuinely still had faith in them, but it’s already been confirmed Brooke leaves next week. Why must everything good be ruined?
Next up is Sophie, who I know is still in the running, so we can be excited about her. Her family seemed like a good time, but Nick struggled with the fact Sophie doesn’t “open up.” Mate, I am sensing a double standard here, since the deepest thing you’ve said all season is “You look bloody tippy toppy today.”
Our last hometown brings us the heroes we needed all season- Brittany’s dad and brother. Sinking back Pure Blonde after Pure Blonde, they gave Nick the reality check he needed by kindly reminding him he really isn’t “all that” just because he was a footy player.
Back inside the house, Brittany’s sister was busy telling Brittany that Nick and Cass had dated before. This is where it gets confusing because Brittany acts as though this is “BREAKING NEWS AT 11” but I am pretty sure this is the only thing that has been talked about all season.
However, Brooke is shattered by the recent news, and believes this might all be a publicity stunt for Nick and Cass, who have planned to go into the show together. She decides to confront poor, sweet, dear, innocent, Cass and I have never been more protective over another person I have never met before.
I used to like Brittany, but mark my words: not anymore. Brittany demanded every detail of Cass’s past with Nick, and Cass, very clearly uncomfortable, was crying and saying “that’s inappropriate, Britt.”
TBH, Britt, it is inappropriate.
Even though I was rooting for Cass, the inevitable happens and Nick sends her home. He tells her they “hit a ceiling” and as sad as it is, he should have done this weeks ago to save her the pain. Be free, Cass. Go find a better man. One who will appreciate your mum’s cookies.
