Last night some of the biggest names in Aussie music played a special gig at the iconic Kings Cross establishment, Candys Apartment. Big names Alison Wonderland, What So Not, Hayden James, and Golden Features got together to throwback to when Sydney’s nightlife was thriving.

Instead of playing back-to-back gigs as originally planned, the music legends collaborated on the set to pay tribute to the glorious Sydney of the mid-late 00’s. The gig featured all those banging ’07 tracks from the likes of The Presets, Justice, Cut Copy and Boys Noize.

Candys was packed to its full 300 people capacity, with Alison Wonderland calling it “the sweatiest show ever”. All fees from the night when towards funding the next rally for Keep Sydney Open.

Hayden James, who had a 3 year residency at Candys, told Pedestrian that institutions like the Iconic club are essential to Aussie music.

“It just goes to show why Sydney needs to be open. The artists like Alison, Emoh coming out of Candys can only mean…if that opportunity doesn’t exist for young artists, it’s not gonna happen…Hopefully this makes a little dint in the lockout laws,” the musician said.

This worthy cause has received a lot of very vocal support from huge names in the music industry, including Peking Duk, Lorde, Flight Facilities, Art vs Science, Jagwar Ma, The Presets, and Bag Raiders. At last year’s ARIAs, Flume used his acceptance speech to make an appeal for Sydney politicians to keep the local music scene alive.

The musicians have spoken. Hopefully the politicians are listening.
