You may have heard that “Mr Brightside” by The Killers has been in the UK Top 100 every year since 2004. Yep. For 13 years, Brandon Flowers has annually been “coming out of his cage” and “doing just fine”. Every. Single. Year.
(At least it hasn’t been their hit “Somebody told me” and he isn’t annually “breaking his back just to know your name”.)
But it seems Britney Spears’ 2004 hit “Toxic” might also be making a comeback.
The demo version of the song with stripped-back vocals has been leaked online. In an era of bubble gum pop where dance routines and manufactured pop idols reigned supreme, Britney’s trademark breathy vocals sound great without autotune.
It doesn’t sound mind-blowingly different – but that’s what’s mind blowing about it. Britney is also responsible for other 90s and 00s classics. We all know her first hit “Baby One More Time” and the multiple costume changes in the video clip.
“Oops!…I did it again” was another banger. With more crazy outfits.
“Everytime” was a slow ballad which melted all our hearts. But that weird version in the movieĀ Spring Breakers sung by James Franco, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson and Rachel Korine was kind of creepy…
By 2005, Britney had completely shed her teen idol image and released more raunchy songs like “Gimme More” and “If U Seek Amy”. Her personal life was a bit rocky for a while there though. She infamously had a meltdown in 2007 and shaved her head…
But with a ninth studio album and a world tour on the way, Britney’s been doing very well in recent years. She’s still the pop icon she always was and she’s avoided the personal struggles she had before. She definitely doesn’t need this guy anymore.
Nope. Britney is “doing just fine”.
