Princess Mary and her family have been enjoying the tourist attractions of the Gold Coast. The royal family were enjoying the sun, sand and waves at Mermaid Beach on Thursday.
Her eldest son and heir to the throne, Prince Christian of Denmark was swimming between the flags. The 10-year-old was swept off his feet and got caught in a dangerous rip.
Lifeguard Nick Malcolm paddled out on his board to save the prince and was shortly thanked by his father, Prince Frederik.
The lifeguards did not know at the time who they were rescuing. Malcolm has kept himself out of the limelight although his supervisor Stuart Keay has praised his good deed. “He’s kept it pretty quiet, I’m sure we’ll give him plenty of stick now we know.”
