Oscar Pistorius has been convicted for the murder of Reeva Steenkamp, which occurred on Valentines Day 2013. The Paralympic gold medallist fired four times through a locked bathroom door of which his model girlfriend was behind. He was originally charged with culpable homicide and a five-year sentence.
Judge Eric Leach ruled it was common sense Pistorius firing a gun would have killed whoever was behind that door whether it was his girlfriend or an intruder. He says the identity of the victim is irrelevant to his guilt and he could now face up to 15 years in prison.
He was released from prison in October after serving a year and has been under house arrest at his Uncle’s residence. He will remain at this mansion in the capital Pretoria while he waits resentencing.
