Queen Bey lovers, this news is for you! The University of Texas at San Antonio have recently announced that students will now have the opportunity to get a deeper and more theoretical look at the star’s successful visual album Lemonade.
The class will be called ‘Black Women, Beyoncé, and Popular Culture’ and will feature studies concerning Bey’s dedication to “black womanhood” and how it all relates to “theoretical, historical, and literary frameworks of black feminism”.
It’ll work by following the album’s progression from Formation to All Night and will be designated into chapters. Each chapter will be reflected in relation to the course’s material while demonstrating Lemonade‘s undeniable ties to black feminism.
The course will be conducted by Kinitra D. Brooks, a scholar at the university who specialises in race, gender, and horror. However, Brooks advised students to not take the course lightly.
“I simply ask that you are willing to be uncomfortable — to have your thoughts and ideas challenged,” Brooks said. “And then to work/read/write your way through that un-comfortability in order to become a stronger critical thinker.”
Although it sounds tough, who wouldn’t want the opportunity to study a musical icon like Beyoncé?
