If you could transport back in time to 2005, you probably had streaks in your hair, spent most of your time on MySpace and recorded Gold Digger by Kanye West on your Nokia flip phone to make it your ringtone.
11 years later and the song is still a hit.
But what we haven’t really noticed is Kanye pretty much went against his lyrics by marrying Kim Kardashian. Who brought this to our attention? The queen of rap herself, Nicki Minaj.
Minaj told Marie Claire it was ironic that he rapped about black men being more likely to marry white women after they become successful.
She said, “I’m so tired of black women feeling that when our men get rich, they’re going to leave them for a woman of a different race.”
“It wasn’t funny when Kanye said [in ‘Gold Digger’]. ‘And when you get on, he’ll leave your ass for a white girl’ – and Kanye happens to be with a white girl now. It wasn’t funny when he said it; it was the f**king truth.”
We’re waiting for a response from Kanye, although we won’t be surprised if his wife, Kim, who wears the crown for clapbacks has something to say.
