In a mega chill move, Netflix has decided to bulk up on its original content by spending $7.78 billion in 2017. The renowned streaming service is already spending $6.49 billion on original programming this year, so there’s going to be no end to the “Netflix and chilling” for years to come.
Netflix is known for its high quality original content like the ground-breaking House of Cards, beloved Orange is the New Black and celebrated Narcos. Not to mention Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Wet Hot American Summer and so many more.
Netflix has been in Australia for a year and it’s been a massive success. Within two months, it had already gained a million users. That quickly rose to 2.7 million by November. Clearly, everyone wants a piece of that action. And with such amazing original content, who can blame them?
Netflix has been criticised for not commissioning any original Australian content, although rival service Stan will be streaming a series based on Wolf Creek later this year. Hopefully Netflix will follow suit with some Aussie content which its CEO says is integral to future success. For the moment, we’re pretty excited for the future on the couch.
