Being the global, go-to, fast food joint is not so simple anymore. Fancy burger joints are dominating the urban food scene and for many, fast food isn’t even an option anymore as we become increasingly health conscious. To tackle this, McDonald’s have recently launched a concept store called McDonald’s Next in Hong Kong.
The McDonald’s Next restaurant, designed by Australian company Landini Associates, is set to rival the more high-end burger joints. It features burgers served on wooden boards, a dining area that is serviced by wait staff, and an open kitchen for the curious customer. Mood lighting in the evening aims to further create a more intimate, relaxed dining experience.
McDonald’s has been shaking off it’s greasy reputation by adding healthier options and trendy salads, and McDonald’s Next is also following suit with a salad bar that features asparagus and quinoa. But for the less health conscious, the restaurant has a desert bar.
Landini have called the new Maccas “an experiment in non-design”, explaining their new approach towards simplicity, saying:
“The colourful graphic environments that became the signature for McDonald’s internationally, are now replaced with a simpler, quieter and more classic approach. The intention is to hero the food, the service and the people who come to enjoy it, and to create a ‘recognisable neutrality’ that allows this to happen.”
It’s reported that McDonald’s Next will open in Singapore, China and Australia.
Table service and mood lighting at McDonald’s, who would of thought.
