A factory worker faces up to 32 years in jail for insulting the Thai king, Bhumibol’s dog. The 27-year-old was charged by police for a “satirical” Facebook post about the king and his dog including three photos. Thailand’s strict laws make it a crime to insult the monarchy and their pets included.
He faces lese majeste, sedition and computer crime charges for liking and sharing a doctored photo of the king and an infographic on a growing corruption scandal.
Colonel Burin Thongprapai, a military junta legal officer revealed “On December 2, he clicked the ‘like’ link on a doctored photo of the king and shared it with 608 friends.”
A woman also handed herself in last month for sharing the same graphic and has been charged for sedition.
The 88-year-old king is the world’s longest-serving monarch who’s dog is praised for her loyalty and obedience. An animated film about the dog stole the number two spot at box offices across Thailand last week.
