5 reasons to watch Empire Season 2

Breaking long standing records, Empire has become one of the hottest shows on television right now with ratings increasing at unprecedented levels. With Season 2 releasing on DVD today we go through five reasons why you should get involved.

The D-R-A-M-A

Created by Academy Award winning director, Lee Daniels and written by Emmy Award winning Danny Strong, each and every Empire episode is like watching a heavily produced, captivatingly written, theatrical movie. Season 2 of Empire will explore the complexities of Lucious Lyon’s character as he is incarcerated in prison, see the rise of Cookie’s own dynasty and follows the repercussions of the hostile takeover which occurred in the finale of Season One. Season Two promises to bring a bucket load of drama, and then some.

Cookie, Cookie and Cookie

Deep down everyone wishes they were Cookie Lyon; her fierce fashion, feisty comebacks and sassy af attitude is absolutely EVERYTHING. Played by Taraji P. Henson who won a Golden Globe for her performance as Cookie, the complexity of the character is perfectly embodied by Taraji, showing the two sides of being an ambitious business mogul while bridging the feud amongst her three sons and ex-husband. In season 2 we see Cookie taking charge and forming new alliances in order to build her own empire. Her characterization alone makes Empire worth watching, being arguably one of the most quotable characters, when ever she appears on screen, you can be sure that we are listening.

Special Guest Cameos 

Ludacris, Kelly Rowland, Becky G, Chris Rock, Alicia Keys, Lenny Kravitz are just a few of the epic special appearances on Season Two of Empire. Do you need another reason to watch it? Kelly Rowland who plays Lucious Lyon’s mother in flashbacks throughout the season has been praised for her emotional and yet powerful performance while the musical collaboration between Jessie Smollett and Alicia Keys was definitely a highlight from Season 2. Written into the storyline, every special guest has a purpose on the show making them an integral part of the storyline and making for some entertaining and power packed television.

With executive producers, Timbaland, Jim Beanz and Raphael Saadiq who have worked with the likes of of Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, Whitney Houston, Empire’s music is something that caters to everyone’s taste. With smash hits like, “Powerful” featuring Alicia Keys and “Ain’t About The Money” sung by lead actors Jussie Smollett and Yazz, the soundtrack of season 2 Empire has evolved with the real music industry to give an alternative sound and modern twist to traditional hip-hop.
