London-based body modification artist, Yann Brenyak has taken tattoos to a whole new level developing a new style called “graphic skin portraits.” The artist has pushed boundaries of body modification and now travels the entire world to practice his new art.
He explained to Vice that the process involves “giving a client a sleeve of ink before the artist carves a silhouetted image into the tattoo with a scalpel. The resulting art, often portraits of human faces, looks like an inverse tattoo, completed through skin splitting, peeling, carving and removal.”
He practiced extensively on his own legs and in 2013 successfully completed a graphic skin portrait of Björk. His Instagram @yann_brenyak is filled with examples of his skin portraits but be careful, as they are quite graphic.
Is this new body modification worth the pain?
