People rarely look up these days. The majority of us have mastered the ‘walk and text’ technique with our heads buried down into our smart phones as we travel to and from our destination. A new study with 100,000 consumers surveyed has revealed that a lot of people think artificially intelligent devices that don’t need screens will replace smartphones.

ConsumerLab questioned people from their native country Sweden and 39 other countries aiming to uncover their desires in technology for the future. 50% of respondents said they thought mobile technology would be a thing of the past by 2021.

Rebecka Cedering Ångström of ConsumerLab predicts that customer’s leisure time will be enhanced if technology heads in this direction. She says “A smartphone in the hand, it’s really not that practical.” The wearable technology trend might be the beginning of replacing smart phones altogether. If our technology is on us instead of in our hand, history might just repeat itself with humans walking the earth looking up instead of looking down!
