This year the Vivid Festival was a massive success, with approximately 1.7 million viewers wandering around Circular Quay. A particular highlight was the magnificent Songlines display that animated the Sydney Opera House. Songlines featured the stunning artworks of Aboriginal artists such as Djon Mundine, Karla Dickens, and Donny Woolagoodja.
It was so popular that the Chairman of the Sydney Opera House Trust, Nicholas Moore, is planning a year round lightshow. The lightshow will feature the same focus on Indigenous history and heritage and will be created through a collaboration with Stephen Page (of Bangarra Dance Theatre) and Opera House Trustee Deborah Mailman.
The proposal has already attracted praise, which will hopefully translate to donations, as the whole project will apparently be funded by supporters. The lightshow will reportedly cost around $1 million but is expected to pay for itself in terms of tourism.
