We get it, Sydney is expensive. It’s hard to feed yourself, let alone think up fancy date ideas for you and your partner. So to help you out, we’ve compiled a short list of free date ideas in Sydney.
Get cultured at the Art Gallery of NSW
One of Australia’s best art galleries is right on your doorstep and, most importantly, entry is free. This beautiful building has a wide array of art and exhibitions to keep you and your partner occupied. Wednesday nights are something special, with free talks and films. Not to mention the art gallery’s picturesque setting in a beautiful park. Bring a picnic and make a day of it!
Immerse yourself in the Royal Botanic Gardens
Sometimes you just need a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. If you and your partner are feeling that way, head over to the Royal Botanic Gardens for a gorgeous date among the wonderfully cultivated gardens showcasing the diversity of Australian plant life. If you feel like learning, there are free guided walks at 10.30am and 1pm daily. If not, stroll around Mrs Macquarie’s chair and check out the stunning view of the Harbour Bridge. It’s the perfect spot for a couple selfie!
Have some fun at Luna Park
Entry to this famous Sydney institution is free, but the rides are pricey. Just walking around the park is pretty exciting, with all the vivid colours and wacky rides around. A centrepiece of Sydney since 1935, Luna Park is full of history so there’s plenty to see as you’re strolling around. Also, the view is absolutely spectacular!
Check out the stars at Sydney Observatory
Although it’s only free to visit during the day, the beautiful Sydney Observatory is a great date idea for you and your partner. You can learn a little about astronomy and on a clear day, you can see the bright stars! That’s right, stargazing during the day. It will definitely a date to tell your friends about. As you can see, the building is architecturally eye catching, so it’s worth checking out. Also (and this seems to be a theme), the views are some of the best in Sydney.
Get lost in the Royal National Park
You and your partner could spend days of free date activities here. The second oldest national park in the world, the Royal National Park is home to a hundred kilometres of walking tracks and idyllic beaches. It also has great opportunities for fishing, bird watching and whale watching if you want to get more in touch with nature. Enjoy the freedom to explore at your own pace and get lost in each other’s company (hopefully not in the national park).
