Offspring first came to our screens in 2010 and stole the hearts of Australia with it’s dysfunctionally, adorable mess Nina Proudman (played by Asher Keddie). She was trying, somewhat haphazardly, to manage a job as an obstetrician; to have some sort of love life and keep her nutter of a family at arm’s length. Nina’s bloody annoying ring tone never seems to stop ringing as she re-enacts a mouse running on a wheel every episode; between houses, cafes and the hospital where she supposedly works!
Now the familiar show is up to it’s sixth season and has return some two years later. Viewers will be in for a number of changes and feel a number of emotions with the plot line. There are tears, when we say goodbye to Nina’s father Darcy at the beginning of this season. There’s laughter when we get inside the head of Nina and see all her internal thoughts and fantasies she plays out with various potential male suitors. There’s seduction with the love triangles and romance that unfolds throughout the season.
So yeah it’s not actually focused on all the medical stuff, rather it conveniently focuses on new life coming into the world like we saw in last season when Nina’s daughter Zoe was born. It’s a mashup of drama and comedy with the cliche’ but true saying of ‘light and shade.’
Sit back, relax and enjoy getting reacquainted with this entertaining form of escapism. And, in case you haven’t seen it yet, here’s this season’s preview!
