Jeto Leto is set to star in the movie Morbius, a spin-off of the popular Spider-Man franchise starring Tom Holland.
In the movie Leto will be playing the Doctor Michael Morbius, a brooding biochemist with a rare blood disorder who, in an attempt to cure his disease, accidentally inflicts himself with a kind of “pseudo-vampirism” that causes sensitivity to light, superhuman strength and speed and of course, uncontrollable blood lust.
Morbius’s already troubling human appearance becomes infinitely worse in the transformation; his canines become elongated and monstrous, his nose becomes squashed and flattened like a bat and his skin gains an inhuman ghostly white quality.
Swedish filmmaker Daniel Espinosa, director of the movie Safe House (2012) starring Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds, is rumoured to be at the helm of the new project. Espinosa and Leto met last month in Germany during the tour of Leto’s band Thirty Seconds to Mars.
Unlike Leto’s previous role as the DC comic book villain The Joker, Morbius is a much more sympathetic and troubled anti-hero.
The issue in which Morbius first appeared was in Marvel’s 1971 Amazing Spider-Man, No. 101. It was the first ever issue not written by Stan Lee, co-creator of Spider-Man and pioneer of Marvel Comics. The character was created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane.
Will Leto go method for this role like he did for The Joker and develop a taste for O positive? Unlikely but he’s pretty eccentric so who knows.
