The BET Awards 2016 was broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles but in case you missed it, here are some of the highlights.
Beyonce made a splash when she kicked off the show with a surprise performance with Kendrick Lamar performing Freedom. She also won video of the year and the viewers’ choice award for Formation.
The event may as well have been called ‘The Prince Tribute Show’ with breathtaking performances from Sheila E., Stevie Wonder and Jennifer Hudson dedicated to the Purple One.
Actor Jesse Williams received the humanitarian award for his efforts as an activist and gave one very powerful speech. He said, “If you have no interest in equal rights for black people then do not make suggestions to those who do: sit down.” Well said Jesse, well said.
Absolute legend, Samuel L. Jackson who received the lifetime achievement award later said that he hadn’t heard a speech like Williams’ since the 1960s.
