The “pilot project” will see Airbus working with Uber in providing them with helicopters to start an on-demand flight service. The startup Blade will debut Uber for helicopters later this week at the Sundance Film Festival. Airbus chief executive Tom Enders confirmed they will use H125 and H130 helicopters to transport customers. Users will be flown between Salt Lake City’s airports and Park City from Thursday through to Monday.
The cost to request a helicopter is still ‘up in the air’ but estimated to be somewhere between hundreds and thousands for a flight.
Uber founder Travis Kalanick said “The point is if you can push a button and can get a ride, then why not push a button and get a helicopter.”
