Police discover boy ‘prisoner’ in tiny shed during drug raid

An 8-year-old boy has been found locked in a makeshift tin shed just 2m by 2m on a Taree property. Police discovered a marijuana drug lab allegedly built by his uncle, mother and her fiancé. The room with no insulation contained just a mattress and a bucket and he said he was only let out to do chores.

After being tipped off, police showed up with a warrant and seized 225 cannabis plants with a street value of $450,000 and discovered the children.

The young boy and his three siblings have now been placed in the care of the Department of Family and Community Services.

The boy’s mother, 26, and her fiancé, 28 have been charged with cultivate a large commercial quantity of prohibited plant and detain a person with intent of financial advantage.
