The one who became a recluse. Say it ain’t so!
David Schwimmer has revealed that he struggled with fame after everyone’s favourite sitcom, Friends, became an overnight hit, and that he had problems with his personal life.
Iconically known as dinosaur loving Ross Geller, Schwimmer always seemed more private than his co-stars, but it’s still hard to believe that anything less than sunshine and roses happened behind the scenes of Friends.
“It was pretty jarring, and it messed with my relationship to other people in a way that took years, I think, for me to adjust to and become comfortable with,” Schwimmer revealed on Monday to the Hollywood Reporter podcast, “Awards Chatter.”
Schwimmer also said that his newfound fame made him “want to hide under a baseball cap and not be seen.” Becoming an overnight celebrity was overwhelming because fans thought they knew him personally, and he gradually became more reclusive as his fame grew.
Maybe that’s why it took so long for him to get back in the spotlight. We were stoked to see him portray the late Robert Kardashian in American Crime Series: The People v. O.J Simpson, which he absolutely nailed.
Please don’t ever hide under a baseball cap David! Your talent has brought us many laughs and smiles and we hope there’s many more to come.
