The Country Fire Service (CFS) announced 35 homes have been destroyed and up to 42 have been badly impacted with the fire burning over 82,000 hectares. In the past 24 hours there has been no increase in the fire area and 75 per cent of it has been contained.

South Australia Premier Jay Weatherill has announced the Pinery fireground has taken the lives of at least two people. 16 have also been hospitalised suffering from smoke inhalation and burns.

While the cause of the fire remains unknown, Police have said initial investigations appeared to show the fire was not deliberately lit. They also hope to be able to completely contain the fire within the next few days.
