Canada’s capital city, Toronto, hosted their annual pride parade this week – a mixed event with tones of both celebration and mourning.

Trudeau is known worldwide for his progressive politics and continuous dedication to making the world a better place for oppressed people (and his good looks, that too). Although he has previously marched in Toronto’s pride parade, Trudeau made history this weekend as the first sitting Prime Minister to march. He was incredibly well received, with great cheers and claps from onlookers.

The PM showed his fun nature when he was blasted with toy water guns, as well as singing along and dancing to Lady Gaga before the parade, and along the route itself.

The parade was intensely political, with protesters mourning the loss of 49 lives in Orlando last month in a homophobic motivated attack. The Black Lives Matter movement also made an appearance, staging a sit in and stopping the movement of the parade for approximately 15 minutes.

Orange Is The New Black stars Diane Guerrero and Jackie Cruz celebrated the pride parade with an adorable picture of the two of them kissing, decked out in glitter and colourful hair extensions. They were later joined by other cast mates Samira Wiley, Dascha Polanco and Selenis Leyva.

Overall, Toronto Pride seemed to stick to the historic meaning of these parades, which is ultimately political, but still managed to celebrate the huge strides we’ve made in LGBT+ rights in the last few years.
