A taste test study published in the Journal of the Association for Consumer Research reveals that watching yourself eat unhealthy food in the mirror can make it seem less tasty.
185 undergraduate students ate either a chocolate cake or a fruit salad in one room with and another without mirrors. The results found the chocolate cake less tasty in front of the mirror with no change to the taste of the fruit salad.
Ata Jami of the University of Central Florida said “It enables them to view themselves objectively and helps them to judge themselves.”
Could a mirror placed in the kitchen really make us second think when deciding what’s for dinner?
