The Death Row Records co-founder Suge Knight is likely to spend his last days in prison after a 28 year conviction, setting his release date in 2046. Taken into custody in 2015 for the hit-and-run of 55-year old Terry Carter, it’s his prior convictions that sealed up the deal.
Suge Knight has pleaded no contest to manslaughter in the 2015 death of a man he ran over in a Compton parking lot after an argument.
In exchange for his plea, Knight will reportedly spend 28 years in prison.https://t.co/yGFzVrerxJ

Known in the past as a powerhouse in the hip-hop and gangster rap industry, Suge Knight’s record housed the biggest names in the 90’s music scene. Having artists such as Tupac, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre and Outlawz under his patronage, Knight was on top of the music industry.
He quickly tumbled down when these artist all left, and when he was was sent to prison in 1996 for a probation violation. This is only the tip of the iceberg, as he has a history of aggravated assault, theft, drugs and gun possession. Taking this into account, the current conviction was certainly coming.
The hit-and-run in question occurred during the filming of Straight Outta Compton, after Knight’s discovered that he would be portrayed in the 2015 biographical drama. After a disagreement on the film’s set between the activist Cle Shaheed Sloan and Knight, Carter attempted to clear the air between the two men in the parking lot of a restaurant in Compton, California.
According to Knight, after being attacked by Sloan in the parking lot Knight propelled his car out of the parking lot, hitting both men. While Sloan eventually crawled away with a mangled foot and a head injury, Carter was killed in the process.
Turning himself in the following morning at a police station in West Hollywood, Knight confidently left his half smoked cigar outside of the station. “I’ll get back to that,” Knight reportedly said, before walking into the station thinking that it would be over quickly.
His cigar has probably disintegrated by now as he has been in custody for 3.5 years of extending the trial and pleading not guilty. On the morning of September 20 in LA Knight finally pleaded no contest. King was able to steer clear of a trial in which he might have avoided an even worser fate, which would have sent him away for life without the possibility of parole.
28 years is a long time but it’s better than what Suge was originally facing—life without parole. Hopefully the victims’ families feel justice has been done. #SugeKnight https://t.co/QRqU8qVzev

It’s likely that Knight won’t see the light of day after walking into prison. His manslaughter charge comes with an 11-year sentence but is doubled because of Knight’s prior felony convictions. Six more years were tacked on because of Knight’s use of a deadly weapon to commit a violent felony. His other pending cases were dismissed as part of the deal. It all adds up to potentially 28 years as a property of the state.
Granted that his health won’t shorten the years, as he has been physically beaten down by his long battle with diabetes and blood clots. If he’s able to carry out the 28 year sentence, Knight will be 81 years old at the time of his release in 2046.
