Legendary crocodile hunter and true blue Aussie hero Steve Irwin will receive a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next year, forever commemorating his legacy. You beauty!

The new stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for 2018 will also include Jack Black, Kirsten Dunst, Zoe Saldana, Rupaul Charles, Snoop Dogg, Ice T, Jeff Goldblum and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Steve Irwin will be honoured for his nature documentaries and the television programs which featured his work in wildlife rehabilitation.

The nature expert’s animated, adventurous spirit lives on in his curious children Bindi and Robert, and his wife Terri. When the Walk of Fame Selection Committee announced the news this morning, the Irwin family were, as always, incredibly excited. True to form, they eagerly highlighted his humble yet inspirational personality and the ongoing effects of his conservation work.

“Steve always said that he didn’t care if anyone remembered him, as long as they remembered his message,” said American naturalist Terri Irwin. “I truly believe that this recognition for Steve’s achievements will ensure that his message of wildlife conservation is remembered.”

Despite his achievements and fame, Terri has always reinforced that Steve felt that he was an “ordinary bloke”.

“Dad changed the world by reaching out to people through their television screens to bring them on the adventure of a lifetime,” Bindi said.

Similarly, Robert added: “He was the best conservationist and inspired so many people and he was also the greatest dad in the world. I am so excited that everything he loved and was passionate about will carry on.”

The honour comes 12 years after Steve’s tragic death, which was caused by a strike to the heart by a stingray barb during filming. The whole Irwin family has since continued his conservation work at Australia Zoo.

Bindi was just 8 years old when he passed but spoke eloquently at his public memorial service. She went on to become a television presenter, conservationist, and actress.

Bindi also won the US series of Dancing with the Stars in 2015. Her first dance was a jive to ‘Crocodile Rock’ by Elton John, dedicated to her late father. The performance was completed with crocodile skin lighting on the dance floor, a khaki outfit for her dancing partner, and a shimmering green ballroom dress for the young star. Crikey!

Meanwhile, Robert, like his father, has brought animals onto late night talk shows. He appeared on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, bringing a sloth for Jimmy to cuddle. He looks very happy about it.

Robert also recently confused Steve Harvey on Family Feud with his thick Australia accent. Poor Robert had to repeat his answer “car” several times before his mum (or mom rather) said the word with an American “R”.

But step aside Steve Harvey, there’s only room for one Steve here. And that’ll be our Steve, the real-life crocodile hunter. From his serious delivery of silly tongue-in-cheek lines…
