Social Media can be innocent fun and a way to communicate and exchange information. One young man has taken the power of social media to a whole ‘nother level with his heartbreaking post last night.

Just last night, Darren Burns wrote a Facebook post pleading for help after his best friend Lucy was hit by a car while in Thailand. She is now in intensive care but needs A Negative blood transfusions, which fewer than one percent of Thai people have. Darren is begging that if anyone with that blood type is in the area to please call him or come past the hospital.

It now has over 70,000 shares with many people willing to assist and even fly to Phuket from where they are. A crowdfunding page has also been set up to help cover medical costs and support her family.

It is refreshing to see social media benefiting society with more than just funny and interesting posts. Facebook and other social media sites are a quick and effective platform to promote good causes, raise awareness and find solutions. There is no single responder anymore with help now with people across the globe willing to help.
