The controversial lockout laws in the Sydney CBD will be lifted tonight to reduce street congestion and potential public safety risks. If you’re heading to Kings Cross or the CBD you won’t be knocked back from clubs and pubs even if you arrive after 1.30. However, they will have to stop serving you drinks at 3am.

Samantha Torres, the Acting Executive Director of the Office of Liquor, Gaming & Racing said “Removal of the lockout on New Year’s Eve only is a one-off annual exception that is in place due to the unique circumstances.”

Over 1 million people are expected to gather on Sydney Harbour for the NYE countdown and fireworks display.

Happy New Year!
