Sydney teenager Abdullah Elmir, the so-called “Ginger Jihadi” is believed to have been killed in Syria. The former Bankstown student who starred in an Islamic State propaganda died in the city of Raqqa 8-10 weeks ago.

In 2014, Elmir told his mother he was leaving for a fishing trip before he turned up in an IS video threatening Tony Abbott. ‘Bring every nation that you want to come and fight us. Whether it’s 50 nations or 50 thousand nations it means nothing to us.’ It was also reported that he married a fellow runaway from Britain, Amira Abase.

About 110 Australians are thought to be fighting in Syria, almost all with Islamic State.
