A Ninth Planet?

Turns out there might actually be a 9th planet that’s about two to four times the diameter of the Earth. Considering it’s size it’s been difficult to locate with astronomers not yet observing the planet directly. The researchers from the California Institute of Technology have found new evidence of a giant icy planet lurking beyond the orbit of Pluto and have nicknamed it “Planet Nine.”

When six dwarf planets tilted 30 degrees away from the orbits of the sun’s planets it was too much of a coincidence for Konstantin Batygin and Mike Brown.

“Basically it shouldn’t happen randomly, so we thought something else must be shaping these orbits” said Brown. Through mathematical modelling and computer simulations the planet’s rough orbit is know but not its exact location.

Brown also added “I would love to find it, but I’d also be perfectly happy if someone else found it.”

Brown who tweets under the handle @plutokiller played a huge part in Pluto’s demotion from being a planet. His young daughter was mad about it and suggested a few years ago that she’d forgive him if he found a new planet.

We’re rooting for you Mike!
