How To Choose The Right Foundation For Your Skin Tone

The easiest way is to dip a cotton bud into the foundation and apply a small bit to your jawline on the side of your face. If the shade is invisible then it is the right colour for you. If you still can’t figure it out then it’s time to take a look at the colour of your veins on your wrists to find the right foundation undertone.

Blue/Purple – your face probably turns to a flushed pink in the sun so you want to use a foundation with a red or blue undertone.

Blue/Green – your skin probably tans quicker than others (lucky you) so your foundation should have a yellow or golden undertone.

Green/Olive – your veins might be less noticeable which means you want warm, yellow undertones in your foundation.
You also need to consider your skin type. Is it oily, dry or a combination?

Oily
In case you’re not already, you need to be using a powder foundation. It can actually absorb the oil from your skin leaving you with a nice smooth finish.

Dry
Choose a liquid or hydrating foundation as you will get good coverage but it will also moisturise your skin.

Combination
If you’ve got combination skin, it’s best to use a combination of foundations. You could start off with a powder foundation to absorb the oil you do have then go over it with a liquid foundation in areas that need that bit extra.

For Example:
You’ve got blue/purple veins and really dry skin. You’d choose something like:

Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup in 0.5 (very fair porcelain with pink undertone)

Or maybe you’ve got blue/green veins but really oily skin then try something like:
Nars Luminous Power in a shade like Barcelona (golden undertone with blend of amino acids to deliver shine-free and natural coverage)
