Single’s Guide to Valentine’s Day

February 14th is the day couples shower their other half in gifts and celebrate their love while simultaneously reinforcing the singleness of ALL single people. However, never fear – if you follow these tips you are sure to have a slightly-less depressing Valentine’s Day.

Safety in Numbers
Valentine’s day is the perfect night to hang out with your other single friends and have a girl’s night in. I say girl’s night IN because you want to avoid the scenes of ‘Lady and the Tramp’ style couples at restaurants, PDA at the movies or interlocked, swinging hands on the beach. Remember that you are not alone so it’s definitely acceptable to order pizza and watch Ryan Gosling take his shirt off in Crazy Stupid Love.

Hang with a Mate
The ratio of guys to girls is currently 1.07 to 1 which means that for every single female there is 1.07 single males. Yes, we know that is physically impossible but the point is that there is no harm in hanging out with a single male friend. They would probably just as much love to hang with a friend on Valentine’s day than be alone.

Spoil Yourself
You’ve been eyeing out that rose gold watch for months but can’t validate a reason good enough to buy it for yourself. Well, news flash, no one else is going to buy you a gift! Plus you have that extra stash of cash lying around ‘just in case’ you snagged yourself a Valentine, so why not spend it on yourself instead? Trust me, you won’t regret it.

Food
Yep, you need to ‘food’ on Valentine’s day! You may ‘food’ in whichever way you wish, although some of my top picks are nutella, pancakes and icecream. Who needs a man? Food is where the heart is.
(Note: To enhance the food experience, binge-watch Netflix and you’ll forget it’s Valentine’s day in no time.)
